Yes
by William Stafford
It could happen any time, tornado,
earthquake, Armageddon. It could happen.
Or sunshine, love, salvation.
It could, you know. That’s why we wake
and look out — no guarantees
in this life.
But some bonuses, like morning,
like right now, like noon,
like evening.
Even those of us who had to work this morning — like I did — enjoyed the unexpected bonus of a winter wonderland outside our windows. I’m too much of a wuss to drive in the snow, so I walked to work. I like that snow slows me down. I think other people were sleeping in this morning because the path around Green Lake was relatively quiet. Let me take you along on my walk.
